Boilers

Boilers can be oil or gas fired. Cast iron boilers have been sold in the US for over 100 years. Cast iron boilers have a life expectancy of 20 to 30 years or more. They are very durable and provide comfortable affordable heating for your family.

When Ranshaw installs a new boiler, we also offer a 10 year extended warranty agreement which covers most of the important boiler parts and labor in the event these parts should fail. Please call or contact us for further information about replacing your boiler.

Furnaces

Furnaces can be either oil or gas and have a great reputation for reliability even in the toughest of winters. Furnaces flame retention burners produce a hotter, more consistent flame that burns more completely. You get more heat from less fuel, with quieter starts and less emissions.

Steam Heating

Steam systems use boilers that are partially filled with water. The principle works similar to that of a teapot. The boiler generates steam which then rushes through pipes, pushing cold air out through valves and thereby heats the radiators. There are many different types of steam systems. The two most popular methods are as follows:

• One-Pipe System - one pipe feeds each radiator, handling both the steam supply and the condensate return. This pipe is near the bottom of the radiator.
• Two-Pipe System - two pipes serve each radiator - steam supply and condensate return. The steam supply pipe is near the top. The condensate return pipe is near the bottom.

Hot Water Heating

Hydronic Heating or Hot Water Heating is notable for its very quiet operation. This is achieved by using a specially designed boiler and eliminating the blower and large motors inherent in traditional systems.

The baseboard and floor systems receive heated water through pipes. As these pipes heat the air, the air rises upwards along the wall. Warm walls make us more comfortable since we don't radiate heat to them. This heat circulates gently and fills an entire room.

Radiant Heating

Radiant heating is a very simple 2000 year old idea: By warming the floor you thereby warm the occupants. Today the principle of radiant heat, when combined with modern technology, is taken to new levels of comfort and efficiency.

You'd be surprised at how easily under floor heating can be installed in concrete or conventional flooring.

Hot Water Heaters

Hot water heaters are designed to heat cold water for use in domestic showers, faucets and washing machines. There are two methods of heating, direct and indirect.

In direct heaters, the flame directly heats the water. These heaters can be oil, gas or electric.

In indirect heaters, hot water from the boiler is piped through a 'heat exchanger' which indirectly heats the water in the tank. This method of heating can be accomplished by a gas or oil boiler.
